With an introduction by Lord Condon, it is a humorous, anecdotal and historical daily account of police work in the Cornwall Constabulary in the 50s and 60s. It is illustrated with Gordon's own original sketches, cartoons and photographs, all the work of the author whilst a Police Constable and Detective Constable at Falmouth and Helston. It recounts the details of interesting cases and experiences in that period dealt with by the author and fellow members of the Cornwall Constabulary.

The book gives an accurate and nostalgic flavour of daily life and customs of the West Country in the decades of the fifties and sixties. How things have changed since then! Policing was carried out with limited communications - no mobile phones, only a whistle to attract attention!
